In 2003 when I went to my hometown to perform my one-man show, “Coming Home Queer,” the college asked me to consider hiring security to handle protesters. In the end, security was not needed because across town a community theater group had mounted a performance of, “The Vagina Monologues.”
For whatever reason, the weddings at which I officiate become magnificent stories. I need to write the story of the Tongan wedding that included the ritual of the groom stepping across the mother-in-law who lies prostrate on the floor in protest.
Short Sands Beach is off the beaten path of Oregon beaches. It is a must see destination and be sure to hike the Eagle Crest Trail. The sight of a naked man taking a shower in the waterfall below the path was unforgettable.
From earliest childhood, Christmas was my favorite holiday. In my years as a pastor my connection with Christmas grew deeper. The events of this story did not destroy Christmas for me, but it was left seriously wounded.
